We like tools that have something to say.
Not because they're vintage. Not because they're expensive. And certainly not to collect them.
We like them because each one responds differently. Because they have character. Because they react in their own way when you push them a little. Because they help uncover sounds you simply don't find when everything goes through the same path.
Over the years, we've built a studio full of possibilities. Not to make things more complicated, but to give ourselves more ways to approach an idea.
In the end, making a record is about thousands of small decisions. And the more interesting options you have in front of you, the easier it is to find the one that truly fits the song.
Some pieces of gear simply do their job.
Others do that—and bring something extra.
A preamp can add weight, depth, or presence. A compressor can add punch, movement, or simply make a performance feel more alive.
We keep a wide range of tools because every production calls for something different. Sometimes we're looking for clarity and transparency. Other times, it's all about texture, color, or a certain attitude.
The real craft lies in knowing when to use each one.
A voice doesn't sound the same through a tube microphone as it does through a classic dynamic mic.
An acoustic guitar can feel huge or intimate depending on where you place a pair of microphones.
A drum kit can sound elegant, wild, open, or aggressive before it even reaches the mix.
That's why we keep a diverse selection of microphones, each with its own character.
We're not looking for one signature sound.
We're looking for the right sound for every session.
We don't put much faith in the battle between analog and digital.
Digital technology gives us precision, flexibility, and speed.
Analog gear brings character, texture, and a different way of interacting with sound.
We enjoy working with both because each has something valuable to contribute to the process.
And because music has never cared much for dogma.
Analog summing is one of the cornerstones of our studio.
More than a technical choice, it's a way of working.
It allows us to integrate preamps, compressors, and other analog processors naturally into the mixing process, making the most of each tool where it truly adds value.
The result isn't usually spectacular in the most obvious sense of the word.
It's something more subtle.
The mixes breathe differently. Each element finds its place more naturally. A sense of depth, cohesion, and three-dimensionality emerges—difficult to measure, but easy to hear when everything falls into place.
They're small differences.
But it's the accumulation of many small differences that ultimately creates a sound with real character.
The most important decisions are made by listening.
That's why we work with different monitoring systems, allowing us to constantly change perspective and make sure a mix translates both inside and outside the studio.
Because a song doesn't live on reference monitors.
It lives in headphones, cars, home audio systems, rehearsal rooms, and on stage.
Part of the magic of a recording studio is having things within reach that weren't part of the original plan.
A different bass.
An amplifier that hasn't been switched on for months.
An unusual pedal.
An instrument someone picks up out of curiosity and that ends up changing the direction of a song.
That's why we keep a drum kit, guitar and bass amplifiers, guitars, basses, and a wide collection of analog pedals ready whenever inspiration calls for them.
And then there's our Hammond T200 tonewheel with Leslie.
An instrument from another era that still has a presence that's hard to describe.
It's not just the sound.
It's the way it fills the room. The way the air moves when the Leslie starts spinning. The way it invites you to play differently.
It's one of those instruments with history, personality, and a worrying tendency to end up on recordings where it was never part of the original plan.
And we wouldn't have it any other way.
We like machines with character.
We like gear that ages gracefully.
We like tools that retain a certain sense of humanity.
But above all, we love songs.
Everything else is here to help them become the best version of themselves.
